Hospital Services

24- Hour Emergency Room Services

The Emergency Department at HMC is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our Emergency Room treats adults and children, serving over 2,000 patients annually. Our ER has five beds and an average wait time is 12 minutes before seeing a physician. Patients can be seen quickly while maintaining the high level of service and care they deserve.

All of our ER nurses are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and International Trauma Life Support (ITLS).

The ER can diagnose emergency conditions and stabilize life-threating patients.

This includes but is not limited to:

  • Emergent/ Trauma Resuscitation
  • Surgery
  • Intensive Care of Trama Patients
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Airway Management
  • Drug Overdoes Intervention
  • Broken Limbs
  • Allergic Reactions

For critically injured or ill patients, HMC will transfer patients to Peoria Bloomington or Springfield hospitals by ambulance or helicopter. The air and ground units are staffed by a team of specially trained flight paramedics, flight nurses, emergency medicine resident physicians, EMS pilots, and a communication specialist.  Each of these individuals plays an important role and is ready to respond to medical needs during transport.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

The critical care team is skilled in advanced cardiac life support. Patients of the ICU can expect a care team of nurses, physicians, respiratory care practitioners, a nutritionist, and a pharmacist; each team member has expertise in meeting the needs of critically ill patients and their families.

Swing Bed

At HMC, we realize that there will be times you or a loved one may need to remain hospitalized beyond the acute stage of an illness, surgery or injury. For instance, specific treatments such as physical or speech therapy may be needed. HMC’s Swing Bed Program makes it possible for you or a loved one to remain at the hospital for these support services until you are able to return home.

HMC has a Case Manager on-site to help patients and their families address social, emotional, and/or financial concerns related to hospitalization, rehabilitation and/or long-term care. HMC’s Case Manager will also be available to discuss and provide patients and their families with care options upon discharge.
